Lismore
Lismore is about 770 kilometres north of Sydney but only about 170 kilometres south of Brisbane.
In between the rainforest and the ocean, Lismore's location attracts people far and wide to bushwalk and picnic through World Heritage rainforests, including the Big Scrub, and explore quaint nearby villages.
Lismore has a sub-tropical climate and mixes warm temperatures with sea breezes for a pleasant climate all year around.
Lismore history
Founded in 1859, Lismore now has a population of around 50,000, largely made from up of students at the town's university.

The Lismore region is popular for its markets so when you're there, check out the Lismore Markets, The Channon and the Bangalow Markets.
It also has great cafes stocked with fresh, organic coffee that'll leave you content.
Lismore outdoor activities
Have a picnic in Lismore at the Heritage Park, or go cycling and 4WDing through the Lismore region.
If you go at the right time, you might also like to join the crowd at the Lismore Cup or be tempted at the 4WD Caravan and Camping Show - a huge display of leisure vehicles, camper trailers and caravans.
Lismore events
In May, Lismore residents and visitors can enjoy the annual Lismore GEMFEST, large festival of gems, crystals and jewellery.
There's also the Lismore Lantern Parade in June each year, when Lismore turns into party mode with lantern floats, music and dancing.
Lismore arts and culture
More performing arts in Lismore include the annual opera event at The Channon. You can listen to spectacular opera set against a backdrop of spectacular hinterland scenery.
